The CORE (Child Survival Collaborations and Resources) Group

Established in 1997, the CORE Group is “a membership association of 40 international nongovernmental organizations” that “promotes and improves the health and well-being of children and women in developing countries through collaborative NGO action and learning.”  To advance learning, CORE members participate in “technically focused Working Groups, which develop activities and products to strengthen community-based interventions for child health.”  To support collaboration, CORE links its members with “universities, Ministries of Health, private-sector agencies, donors and other organizations trying to improve the health and well-being of women, children and newborns.”

Freedom from Hunger was a founding member of CORE and, since then, our staff have actively served in many working groups and on the Board of Directors, in particular as Chair, Secretary and At-Large Member.  Notably, former Senior Vice President of Program Services, Dr. Robb Davis, was recognized in 2005 with CORE’s Dory Storms Child Survival Recognition Award for his leadership that led to improved program effectiveness and impact on the health of mothers, children and infants.  Freedom from Hunger has also contributed to a number of CORE materials addressing Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), Tuberculosis and Lot Quality Assurance Sampling.  Currently, our staff serve on the HIV/AIDS, IMCI, Malaria and Social Behavioral Change working groups.
