University of Ghana, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research

Founded in 1979, the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research is considered to be “the leading biomedical research institute in Ghana.”  A member of the College of Health and Sciences at the University of Ghana, it is composed of nine academic departments and operates several facilities.  Its research focuses on communicable diseases and nutrition.

Freedom from Hunger has worked with the Noguchi Memorial Institute on three research projects over the past several years.  During the late 1990s, the Institute led one of the first impact evaluations of Credit with Education.  In 2003, it collected data for a study testing the correlation between a modified United States Department of Agriculture Food Security Module and household consumption in Ghana.  And, recently, the Institute participated in a study to measure the impacts of Freedom from Hunger’s malaria education module on client knowledge, attitudes and practice.
