Public Sector
Bilateral, multilateral and international private voluntary organizations have supported our approach through a number of major projects and initiatives. These include the following:
- Breaking Through Barriers to Growth: Through a five-year USAID PVC Matching Grant and support from USAID’s Implementation Grant Program (IGP), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank, Freedom from Hunger is working to build capacity in West Africa and the Philippines to break through barriers to client growth. Participating organizations include CIF, FECECAM, FUCEC, Kondo Jigima, Nyèsigiso, PAMECAS, and RCPB in West Africa and CARD in the Philippines. Emphasis is on expanding their range of products, building technological capability, developing new tools and systems to manage growth, developing new models of collaboration to increase local demand and creating marketing channels to reach large numbers of the poor.
- CGAP-Ford Social Indicators Project: Through a three-year grant from the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), Freedom from Hunger is supporting two partner implementing organizations, Fundación ESPOIR in Ecuador and CRECER in Bolivia, to adopt and integrate two methods of social performance measurement—a food security survey and impact mini-surveys. The experience and documentation gained from this project will help us to facilitate adoption, adaptation and use of these methods by other partners.
- A Dynamic Knowledge Management Strategy for Leveraged Outreach to the Poor: Through a grant from the Accelerated Microenterprise Advancement Project (AMAP) of USAID’s Office of Microenterprise Development, Freedom from Hunger is implementing a cohesive knowledge management strategy to support collaborative learning within and among three groups: Freedom from Hunger staff; partner implementing organizations and, by extension, poor women served by those partners; and collaborating organizations. The focal point of the project is this website, which provides access to a wealth of resources to advance knowledge and practice.
- Financial Integration, Economic Leveraging and Broad-Based Dissemination (FIELD-Support): This Leader with Associates (LWA) award was granted by USAID’s Office of Microenterpise Development to a team of 27 organizations, headed by the Academy for Educational Development (AED), in order to “implement innovative, comprehensive, and integrated approaches to sustainable economic growth with poverty reduction.” Freedom from Hunger serves as a resource organization to the LWA, which will operate through FY 2010.
