Results-Driven
Freedom from Hunger is motivated and driven by results. We believe it is important to prove we are having intended impacts as well as improving our ability to achieve them. We measure our success along three dimensions: scale, sustainability and impact.
Scale
Freedom from Hunger intends to reach 3 million women by 2010, generating benefits for approximately 16.5 million family members. To this end, we
- develop and promote delivery models that help implementing organizations take integrated services to significant scale;
- advance our Reach initiative to overcome service bottlenecks, serve a greater variety of implementing organizations and ultimately reach more women;
- monitor progress toward scale through status reports and periodically evaluate our outreach through impact evaluations; and
- measure food security of clients to ensure that we are reaching the poor.
Sustainability
We endeavor to make our services and those of our partners sustainable, both financially and institutionally, over the long term. To this end, we
- build capacity of implementing organizations;
- develop and promote services that are financially sustainable; that is, they achieve cost-recovery without long-term reliance on external subsidy;
- advance our understanding of microfinance and health protection by focusing on and documenting the relationship between integrated services and financial sustainability; and
- monitor the sustainability of our initiatives and that of the implementing organizations we assist through status reports and periodic assessments.
Impact
We seek to achieve family food security for the poor, especially the very poor. To this end, we help implementing organizations monitor changes in well-being of their clients. Additionally, we pursue rigorous impact evaluations of our work to advance our learning and that of the broader development community in the following areas:
- Family Food Security
- Health and Nutrition
- Women’s Empowerment
- Social Capital
- Family Income
To monitor progress towards achieving these goals, a robust system is required – one that enables us to measure and manage our performance as well as the performance of our partners. Learn more about performance management.
